Why Is Christianity Offensive ?

Not only is Christianity offensive, its devisive too ! Two reasons why this is so. One reason Christianity is offensive is because of its absolute claim that it is the only way to heaven. In fact, man found that statement so offensive, that when this concept was originally presented the author of it was hung on a cross in an attempt to rid the world of it - to no avail. Regardless, God clearly has no qualms about the exclusiveness of how to enter heaven: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6

Try this fun little experiment; say the name of Jesus in a group setting. The tension is palpable. Two polarized camps are immediately created. One group thinks; "I hope they don’t talk about the Jesus that I am not following", and the other group

thinks; "I hope they don’t talk about the Jesus that I am kinda' sorta' following."

Nothing new. People are just as offended today as they were when Jesus initially made the claim that He is the only way to salvation. When you make that claim now be prepared to be vilified, marginalized, and legislated against - exactly as Jesus experienced.

Reason two why Christianity evokes such a vituperative response:

Because of Christianity's unique illuminating nature, it brings to light a sinful lifestyle, and ain't nobody like thier dirty laundry shown to the world - including myself !

So in an attempt legitimize a lifestyle apart from God, man creates his own set of rules of how life is to be lived in order to placate the guilt associated with not living up to God's standard. Doing so, he has broken the oldest rule in the book, mentioned in the first commandment - "You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind" Exodus 20:4

When making oneself the purveyor of what is right and wrong, man puts himself on the throne and makes himself his very own self appointed idol / god. He creates a god that doesn’t exist, a figment of his own imagination, aka "relativism". Relativism is man's favorite religion for two reasons;

1) It fills the need to honor something bigger than ourselves

2) It doesn't address sin

It's really a win/win religion. You can walk around with the appearance of "spirituality" and carry on wallowing in sin unabated, albeit temporarily.

Relavitism can be found in may forms; saving whales, saving trees, saving Lake Tahoe, etc.. The irony is, while trying to save temporal things the eternal goes unsaved.

"They began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused." Romans 1:21

So with 7.046 billion people in the world running around with their own set of self made up rules of what feels good you have what you have in the world today. .. how's that been working out ?

Then there are those that throw this line out in regards to the offensiveness of Christianity; "I don’t believe in Christianity and it offends me so I don't want to hear about it. I also demand it be illegal to put up a manger scene and telling me I'm a sinner going to hell," etc..

This statement couldn’t be any more of a falsehood if it tried, and I will prove it once and for all.

If someone went around telling these same "offended" people that a pink unicorn is the only way to heaven, would these same people be offended and try to outlaw manger scenes of just born pink unicorns ?? Obviously not. The reason they are not offended is because any clear thinking adult knows full well that pink unicorns aren't real, which makes them not a threat, which doesn't warrant spending energy fighting against something that isn't real. This is the heart of why people are offended by Christianity. It is because of the fact that it is quite real, thus real threatening.

"Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks." Romans 1:21

When discussing Christianity with unbelievers, no need to fall prey for all the deflection and smoke screens that will inevitably come up. Man knows full well (even if they admit it or not) that Christianity is real - and based on their responses, aparentlly too real for comfort. The mere mention of the name Jesus goes straight the conscience and makes us acutely aware of our sin - hence the knee-jerk reactions.

"For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." Hebrews 4:12

This is exactly why you will never see Muslims or Atheists burning Jehovah Witness, Buddhist, Hindu, or Mormon churches and murdering their followers, they save that for Christians. ..why ?

Pink unicorns pose no threats.
